DAY 11: Tuesday 6/26

School started in town today, so we met the neighbors around 7:30 and walked together like usual. In random pairs, we conducted an interview with a random person from the park (which again is pretty uncomfortable as Los Angeles residents would not talk to a foreign exchange student trying to interview them) then presented that information to the whole group. Bus ride back to school, and we found out we have a “final project”. It’s basically an assessment of everything we’ve learned but there isn’t a grade, so it’s not truly a final. For the final, we were randomly split into four groups to read a classic Costa Rican legend and reenact it with our own dialogue. We had some time to work on it today but will have more tomorrow before we present it. After school, we went back home for lunch (gluten free spaghetti with salsa), rested for a little over an hour, then walked to town with our friends for another day of volunteering at the library. Today, both of us taught the little kids numbers. Zainab’s kid was a mini genius and basically knew all of the numbers in English and Spanish, while Abby’s kid refused to speak so we mainly just colored and danced. It was really fun to work with the kids, and a very different experience from working with the moms, as the moms wanted to learn to improve their communication while the kids were, well, being kids. After volunteering, the whole group walked around town for a little then to La Finca for dinner! Decently good Italian food for Costa Rica. After our early dinner, we made a quick trip to Pops (Abby got cotton candy ice cream :)) and then back towards Sabana Larga. We also stopped at MaxiPali with the group on our way home (which has become kind of a random but fun habit). It started raining pretty hard so we decided to just go home rather than hang out at the basketball court even though it was only 7. We helped Sebastian and Felipe with their English homework, showered, and went to bed!
